Awakening

This is a poem I wrote that seemed a bit sci fi "ish" and I like it as I would like to try my hand at sci fi writing. So I will include it here. Comments welcomed.

Early Morning

Gentle rain

Quiet dawn

Stirring ‘round the world

Stirring

Opening

Each at the same time

The same way

The same look

Each small being pulled upright

Walking thinking doing

Food was there

They knew how to eat

How to sleep

How to shit

And they grew

Each at the same rate

They became aware

Of one another

Of self

They cooperated

Busied themselves and grew older together

They copulated

They knew the end was near

Babies were born

All on the same day

And put to sleep the next

Then they waited

Waited for the last long day

It dawned as every day had dawned

They saw the sun

Beautiful

They knew they would not see it again

Then they began their departure

Each at the same time

The same way

With the same feelings of loss and expectation

Until they were all gone

Silence descended on the planet

Then the morning of awakening began anew

Gentle rain

Quiet dawn

Stirring …
